Granite Countertops

Granite is a natural stone harvested from the earth from all over the world. This natural stone product has been used for decades as it is one of the most durable surfaces available for countertops. 3cm Countertop material has become popular and helped to create the granite countertop boom. By eliminating the need to support the 2cm material and the added talent needed to craft laminated edging and reduce labor required to create the custom countertops. Granite became mainstream material for residential use in kitchen and bathrooms and has remained the leader since the mid 80’s as the most desirable material for custom countertops.

Quartz Countertops

Silestone was one of the first on the scene producing a solid surface countertop material. Since then competition and branding created a fragmented market on this material and created some confusion. only recently has the term quartz Countertops started to take hold and represent the  category as a whole. Quartz Countertops technically has ground up quartz material as the base material and uses a polymer to adhere these pieces together. This surface although man made is very close to granite countertops as far as durability. Because the material is man made color control and production have some advantages. Commercial use of this surface has increased because of the control and production factors of quartz countertops.  Because of the process to create this material the surface is void of any cracks or fissures . This makes the surface less susceptible to any bacteria storage where a natural stone would use a sealer.
